How we measure our hides (honestly, transparently & professionally)

How do we determine the fur size?

We measure each hide correctly and professionally according to furrier standards , namely from the head ( Kopp ) to the rear end of the hide ( Pumpf ) .
The measurement is taken along the back line , so that the fur length reflects the true, usable size .
This method is considered a fair and precise measuring method in the fur trade and ensures absolutely verifiable fur measurements .

Are these measurements of length or measurements of area?

Our size specifications are always pure length specifications (from–to) .
So we are measuring the length of the fur , not the surface area.

Specifically, this means:

  • Length measurement = from–to (e.g. 80–90 cm)
  • No area measurement = not length × width

The width of natural hides varies greatly, therefore a length x width measurement would not be comparable and is often misleading.
Our unit of length, on the other hand, is unambiguous, verifiable and fair .

Why do some providers measure diagonally – and why don't we?

Many competitors use the diagonal measurement because diagonal measurements appear larger , even though the fur area remains the same.
This leads to opaque fur sizes , which can mislead customers.

We deliberately refrain from doing so because:

  • Diagonal measurement = artificially inflated numbers
  • Backline measurement = actual fur length, realistically usable, technically correct

Our measurement is honest, comparable and binding – a clear advantage when buying.

Why do we specify fur sizes as length ranges (e.g. 80–90 cm)?

To help you immediately recognize the realistic fur length , we categorize each fur into clear size categories according to the furrier's measured dimensions.
Typical fur sizes are:

  • 60–70 cm
  • 70–80 cm
  • 80–90 cm
  • 90–100 cm
  • 100–110 cm
  • 110–120 cm
  • 120–130 cm
  • 130–140 cm
  • 140–150 cm

These ranges make it easier for you to compare prices , choose the right size , and ensure maximum transparency in the fur trade .

What if a measurement is incorrect?

Even if we measure extremely carefully, the fact remains: we are human.
And when things get hectic, it's easy to misjudge things .

Therefore, our frank word to all meticulous measurers and hair counters :

Should the fur measurement differ from the stated measurement, please let us know. This is neither fraud nor deception , but a human error – which we will of course correct immediately and without any hassle .
Talk to us – we don't bite.

This honesty is just as important to us as fairly measured hides.

What advantages do our measurement methods offer you?

  • Actual fur measurements instead of marketing figures
  • Clear, verifiable fur sizes according to furrier standards
  • Fair comparability with other furs
  • A safe shopping experience through transparent measurement
  • Better planning for processing and decoration thanks to reliable fur lengths
  • Open communication if something isn't right
  • Clear information thanks to a clear unit of length instead of confusing units of area.

In short:

We measure fairly, transparently and professionally – no diagonals, no tricks.
Only genuine fur lengths , divided into clear size ranges, and an open ear for all those who look closely.
